#1 Lights in the Tree

The event chronicled herein occurred during a time of great spiritual and emotional unrest (about 15 years ago) we were plagued by UFO's, spirit manifestations and mysterious, government SUVs with limo tint driving around at 3am. We were living in a small town in Michigan where limo tint is usually reserved for... limos. I include it here because it comprises only a single piece to a bigger enigma surrounding our early relationship together.

We spent many nights driving for hours, after having been driven (repeatedly) out of our home via "supernatural harassment". Neighbors said we lived in a haunted neighborhood, so perhaps we should have expected it, but the sightings, sounds and oddities were numerous. In our blog we will return to this time in our lives to share more details with you, but for now here is a micro-account of what we witnessed and endured.

One inexplicable autumn night in 1999 we were driving around in a very rural area. You might say it was straight-up country out there. With absolutely no streetlights the rich blackness of night surrounded us. The belt of the milky way and waxing moon shone brilliantly against the road and surrounding nighttime foliage. It was unusually warm for that time of year, and more unusual - dead still - no wind.

As we ambled along the deeply pitted dirt road, we noticed an ominous red glow, floating low in a mature oak tree. The tree stood timelessly at the edge of a barren field. Across the street was a mature corn field. Drawing nearer, the light grew to the size of a basketball, an orb that appeared to have an inner glow, but not bright enough to emit its own light rays.

The car eased to a stop right  in front of the tree and we couldn't resist putting our windows down. At a dead-stop we watched, mesmerized, as this red, glowing "basketball" bounced and danced around in the foreground of the oak's branches. It seemed to energetically stir the tree, as if it were lifted by a breeze - yet everything else remained perfectly still, including the corn stalks. It made absolutely no sound whatsoever.

Thick silence, warmth and cover of night surrounded us. It was as if we were suspended in a trance and somehow outside of time, held there...

After a few minutes, the light orb started moving about on the ground at the base of the tree, moving from one side of the tree, behind and then swooping out on the other side. It came to rest as a low backlight, behind the tree, alighting the ground in a supernatural red glow.

We were totally astonished and speechless.

Without warning, a giant silhouetted figure leaned out from behind the tree and froze in place as if watching us.

Windows up! The car bounced wildly over loose gravel and potholes as we sped the hell out of there!

In retrospect, perhaps we saw the spirit of the oak tree - trees being spiritually aligned with the human body/human figure. It is part of my ancestry (Nordic) that the oak is the doorway to the underworld and the avenue through which the dead can pass at certain times of the year or in certain cosmic configurations. I have no idea what those times and astrological "okays" are though -

Has anyone else seen anything like this? Can the spirits of trees come to us as specters or even humanoid figures? Was this a shadow person? Alien? Demon? What do you think?  Please leave comments.

Welcome

We are starting this blog to chronicle the paranormal/strange/unexplainable events that we have experienced in this life. You know, those dark shadows in the corner of our eyes that we so often dismiss, chance encounters with the surreal, time/space anomalies, worlds colliding and inexplicable glimpses into the rabbit hole of the human mind.

We are looking for participation here. If you have experienced similar oddities, please subscribe and comment. We want to hear your story, as does all the other readers of this humble blog.

So, please participate. Share your stories in the comment section or e-mail it to us and we'll post it as a stand-alone blog entry. The author will, of course, receive the appropriate author credit for their submission.

Thank you for reading,
